The JW3332 is a low side ideal diode controller that drives one external N-channel MOSFET to replace Schottky diode. The Schottky diodes have been a popular used to prevent reverse current in battery application. The disadvantage of this approach is the forward voltage drop and resulting efficiency loss. Using N-channel MOSFETs toreplace Schottky diodes reduces the power dissipation and eliminates the need for costly heat sinks or large thermal layouts in high power applications.
In the forward direction the JW3332 controls the voltage drop across the MOSFET to ensure smooth current transfer from one path to the other without oscillation. If a power source fails or is shorted, fastturnoff minimizes reverse current transients.
